After initially balking, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will send a representative to meet with Attorney General Eric Holder Thursday as part of Vice President Joseph R. Biden’s efforts to address gun violence this week, a White House official said Thursday.

The retail giant and country’s largest munitions seller had initially declined an invitation to participate, saying that no executives were available this week.

“Knowing our senior leaders could not be in Washington this week, we spoke in advance with the vice president’s office to share our perspective,” said spokesman David Tovar. “We underestimated the expectation to attend the meeting on Thursday in person, so we are sending an appropriate representative to participate.”
