President Obama is reportedly giving serious consideration to a speedy withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan, leaving no troops there after 2014.
Mr. Obama is considering the “zero option,” instead of leaving a residual force, because of his deteriorating relationship with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, The New York Times reported.
Mr. Karzai was upset with American peace talks with the Taliban in Qatar, The Times said. He accused the U.S. government of leaving the country exposed to its enemies.
A June 27 video conference between Mr. Obama and Mr. Karzai ended badly, lending credence to the more extreme withdrawal plan, The Times reported.
