Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had nothing but glowing things to say about Sen. Patty Murray, Washington Democrat, on Tuesday.

Speaking about the increasing number of women who hold committee chairmanships in the Senate, he said that “Patty Murray is one of the best. She’s Secretary of the caucus; she’s really an outstanding senator.”

Mrs. Murray, who chairs the Budget Committee, has been front and center in recent negotiations on the Senate Democrats’ spending plan.

And has the increased number of women as committee heads changed the tone of discussions and conversations?

“No question about it,” Mr. Reid said. “Women have added something to the Senate that only women can add.”

And what is that? he was asked.

“I don’t know; I’m not a woman,” he quipped. “[But] they do it.”
