Hustler's Larry Flynt endorses former Gov. Mark Sanford

South Carolina’s former Gov. Mark Sanford — who’s political star fell with an adulterous affair that led to his divorce — has received a new endorsement in his run for Congress: It’s from Hustler magazine guru Larry Flynt.

The weight of that endorsement remains to be seen, however. Along with his thumbs-up, Mr. Flynt also called Mr. Sanford a “sex pioneer” — not exactly a bumper sticker banner for a politician seeking votes in a conservative state.

“I’m endorsing Mark Sanford for U.S. Congress because no one has done more to expose the sexual hypocrisy of traditional values in America today,” Mr. Flynt said, in an endorsement posted on YouTube. “Mark Sanford has demonstrated by his words and deeds that traditional values are shameful and that he will not live by such rules. His open embrace of his mistress in the name of love, breaking his sacred marriage vows, was an act of bravery that has drawn my support.”

Mr. Sanford is now engaged to Maria Belan Chapur, the woman he had an affair with. He faces a tough challenge from Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch. Mr. Sanford’s ex-wife, Jenny, recently filed trespassing charges against him for allegedly violating a court order to stay a certain distance from her home.
