New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie shrugged off a recent Time magazine cover with his silhouette and the cover line “The Elephant in the Room” with typical bluntness on “Fox News Sunday.”

“Who cares?” he said. “I mean, seriously. I’m on the cover of Time magazine, you know. It is certainly not the first weight joke that has been thrown my way over the course of the last four years … it doesn’t matter to me, it really doesn’t, and if you’re going to be bothered by that kind of stuff, then you don’t belong in public leadership. They can say whatever they’d like — it’s fine by me.”

Mr. Christie has often poked fun at his weight — he ate a doughnut during an appearance on “Late Show With David Letterman,” for example — but also has lost a significant amount after undergoing lap-band surgery earlier this year.
