Ninety-year-old Gurley Martin filed to run in the 2014 U.S. Senate race in Kentucky Wednesday — on his birthday — giving Minority Leader Mitch McConnell a challenger who’s 19 years his senior.

Mr. McConnell has already brought in $17 million in his quest for a sixth term, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported. Political neophyte Matt Bevin is challenging Mr. McConnell in the GOP primary and Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is the frontrunner on the Democratic side.

Mr. Martin received less than 1 percent of the vote in a 2010 GOP primary bid against Sen. Rand Paul, who is backing Mr. McConnell.
