The federal government is closed, but Camp David is very much open for Vice President Joseph R. Biden and his wife, Jill.

While most national parks are closed and hundreds of thousands of federal employees are furloughed due to the shutdown, the Bidens are spending the three-day holiday weekend at the exclusive presidential retreat in Maryland’s Catoctin mountains.

Staffing at Camp David is provided primarily by the Navy and the Marine Corps. The 200-acre retreat includes a swimming pool, movie theater, bowling alley, a mountaintop cafe and VIP guest cabins.

A brief announcement of the vice president’s plans said, “There are no public events scheduled” for the weekend getaway.
