Rep. Tim Huelskamp, Kansas Republican, said he would vote against raising the debt ceiling before the government runs out of money on Oct. 17 unless he sees a long-term fiscal plan to balance the budget that also puts some restrictions on Obamacare.
“I have done that in the past, but I’m not going to sit by and let the president of the United States threaten to use our senior citizens as pawns,” he said.
He also said he didn’t think that a clean continuing resolution would pass the House if Speaker John Boehner brought it to the floor for a vote.
“I don’t see the votes there in conference. For days in a row now, no Republican has stood up and asked for that vote,” he said Thursday on CNN. “There’s a solid group of Republicans, moderates and conservatives alike, who say, ‘We expect the Senate to negotiate.’ “
