With Obamacare under fire in Congress, President Obama will give a speech Thursday at Prince George’s Community College to defend the merits of the program.

Mr. Obama will “lay out one of the cornerstones of what it means to be middle class in America: having access to affordable health care that you can count on,” the White House said Tuesday.

Open enrollment in the health care insurance exchanges begins Tuesday, as Republican lawmakers push to defund the program from the federal budget.

“In just a few days, uninsured Americans will finally have access to comprehensive coverage that fits their needs and budget, many for the first time,” the White House said. “And for Americans who have insurance today, they will finally have the security of knowing their care can’t be taken away when they need it most, due to a pre-existing condition.”
