A shutdown may be imminent and Congress may be able to agree on little, but on Monday they at least found common ground in ensuring that the nation’s troops get paid.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid passed the measure without objection, a day after the House sent the bill over.
Mr. Reid was acting just ahead of Senate Republicans, who had taken to the chamber floor to demand the Senate pass the bill.
Earlier in the day Mr. Reid led Democrats in shooting down two other House proposals that would keep the government open while denting Obamacare, but the Senate had left the troops measure hanging without any action.
The House bill now goes to President Obama for his signature.
