Navy Yard shooting survivors will not be furloughed

Workers who were in the building affected by the Navy Yard shooting will not be furloughed if the government shuts down.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus tweeted Monday afternoon that “those members of the #NavyFamily in Navy Yard Bldg 197 on Sept. 16 will be exempt in case of gov’t shutdown. @USNavy.”

Twelve people were killed before gunman Aaron Alexis was killed in a police shootout.
