Mired in a four game losing streak, and just 1-5 for the season, the Washington Mystics made a roster move on Wednesday, signing free agent guard Shannon Bobbitt, and waiving veteran guard Dominique Canty.
Bobbitt was a second round pick, number 15 overall, by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2008 draft. Bobbitt spent two seasons with the Sparks before signing with the Indiana Fever last season. Bobbitt averages 3.9 points and 2.1 assists per game.
The release of Canty comes as a bit of a surprise, as does her lack of production in the Mystics lineup. The 14-year veteran was signed by the team in the offseason in an effort to bring a more experienced group of players to the court, after the team fielded one of the youngest squads in the league last season.
Canty began her career with the Detroit Shock, now the Tulsa Shock, then joined the now-defunct Houston Comets, and then the Chicago Sky. In her six games with the Mystics, Canty averaged 2.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.
