Does anyone do well against Roy Halladay? The answer to that question might surprise you. The easy answer is no, not really.

But when it comes to the Nationals, yes, Ivan Rodriguez and Matt Stairs do.

To be fair, other than Rodriguez, Alex Cora, Matt Stairs and Jerry Hairston Jr., no member of the Nationals roster has had more than nine at-bats against the Phillies right-hander. But still, Rodriguez has a signficant sample size against the Cy Young winner and still posts a .400 average against him, as does Stairs at .385 in 26 at-bats.

If the Nationals are planning to stay on turn with the rotation between Wilson Ramos and Rodriguez, he’ll get another chance to add to those numbers tonight in the middle game of the Nationals’ three-game set with Philadelphia. Stairs got the start at first base last night but with Adam LaRoche expecting to be back today, that probably won’t happen again.

Here’s how some of the other Nationals have fared against Halladay:

Ian Desmond: .222 in 9 at-bats, 1 BB, .300 OBP, .222 SLG, 4 K

Rick Ankiel: .500 in 2 at-bats, 1 BB, .667 OBP, .500 SLG

Jayson Werth: 0-for-1 in 1 at-bat, 1 K

Adam LaRoche: .143 in 7 at-bats, .143 OBP, .143 SLG, 2 K

Michael Morse: 0-for-6 in 6 at-bats, 1 K

Danny Espinosa: 0-for-4 in 4 at-bats, 2 K

Alex Cora: .120 in 25 at-bats, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, .154 OBP, .240 SLG, 3 K

Ivan Rodriguez: .400 in 35 at-bats, 3 doubles, 2 HR, 5 RBI, .400 OBP, .657 SLG, 6 K

John Lannan: never faced him before.

Matt Stairs: .385 in 26 at-bats, 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB, .429 OBP, .538 SLG, 3 K

Jerry Hairston Jr.: .091 in 22 at-bats, 2 BB, .167 OBP, .091 SLG, 4 K

Laynce Nix: .500 in 4 at-bats, 1 2B, .500 OBP, .750 SLG

Wilson Ramos: .333 in 3 at-bats, .333 OBP, .333 SLG

John Lannan has never beaten the Phillies in 11 starts. He is 0-8 in those starts with a 6.09 ERA and he’s allowed 14 home runs. His task doesn’t get any easier with Hallday on the mound against him, but Lannan has been pitching well enough to keep the Nationals in games and that’s all they’ll ask him to do again today.
