Desmond out of today's lineup

PITTSBURGH — One day after he committed two errors, shortstop Ian Desmond is not in the lineup for the second game of the Nationals three-game series with the Pirates. Alex Cora gets the start at shortstop.

Desmond could be missing from the lineup for a few reasons: 1. It’s a routine day off for the shortstop; 2. His wife, Chelsey, went into labor with the couple’s first child; 3. Manager Jim Riggleman wants to give him a break after a rough night in the field on Saturday.

We’ll soon find out. For now, here are today’s ineups:

Nationals:

Danny Espinosa 2B
Rick Ankiel CF
Jayson Werth RF
Adam LaRoche 1B
Michael Morse LF
Jerry Hairston Jr. 3B

Pirates:

Andrew McCutchen CF
Jose Tabata LF
Lyle Overbay 1B
Neil Walker 2B
