PITTSBURGH — The Nationals have officially reinstated right-handed reliever Todd Coffey from the disabled list.

Coffey missed 12 games with a left calf strain, injured during conditioning drills. He went on the disabled list on April 17, retroactive to April 9. Coffey was 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA in five appearances this season.

Right-hander Collin Balester, who’d been called up to replace Coffey, was optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday night to clear room on the roster for Coffey’s return.
