PITTSBURGH — When the Nationals game against the Pirates was rained out on Friday a number of things happened. First, the Nationals lost their scheduled off day for today, second, they suffered their third rainout in less than a week and third, they were saved from needing to use left-hander John Lannan on short rest to close out the series.

Lannan will lead the Nationals into a lefty-left rubber match tonight when the Nationals look to take the series from the Pirates against left-hander Paul Maholm. Maholm, who is 0-3 on the season, is coming off his worst outing of the year — a 3 2/3 innings affair where he allowed six earned runs off seven hits and three walks to the Marlins.


The Nationals offense managed a season-high 15 hits against the Pirates on Sunday. Here are their career numbers against Maholm:
