The tarp has been on the field here at Nationals Park since late Friday night and I'm no weatherman but looking at the forecast I'd doubt they're removing it any time soon. Published April 16 2011
Yewri Guillen, an 18-year-old shortstop in the Nationals Dominican Republic academy in Boca Chica, died Thursday morning of bacterial meningitis, roughly four days after he began exhibiting symptoms of infection. Published April 16 2011

After the Nationals' 4-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday night, shortstop Ian Desmond voiced his frustrations about the Nationals anemic offense. Desmond, who was part of a top four in the lineup that combined to go 0-for-15 on the night, admitted – somewhat self-depricatingly – that it would help if the leadoff hitter would get on base. Desmond was talking about himself, mired in an 0-for-25 slump inside Nationals Park this season. But Friday afternoon manager Jim Riggleman tried to make it easier for Desmond to do just that by taking some of the pressure of the leadoff spot off of the shortstop – dropping him to seventh in the order and moving second baseman Danny Espinosa there for the first time this season. Danny Espinosa got his first shot of the season at the leadoff spot with shortstop Ian Desmond dropped to seventh in the lineup. Wilson Ramos is also in the lineup for back-to-back days for the first time this season and Brewers outfielder Nyjer Morgan is not in the lineup tonight. Here are the full lineups. Published April 15 2011
The main event this afternoon is most likely going to be Nyjer Morgan's triumphant return to Washington D.C., coming to town with the Milwaukee Brewers with a .476 average (10-for-21) with two doubles, two triples, two walks and two RBI. But for the Nationals, they'll have to worry about left-hander Chris Narveson, who has yet to give up an earned run in two starts this season and has allowed just nine hits. He's walked only four and struck out 14 batters in 13 innings. Published April 15 2011
Wilson Ramos' performance is keeping his value skyrocketing. There aren't too many teams in the major leagues that have a major league-ready catcher at age 23 who profiles as a power hitter in the future and is already hitting .455. But with the news coming out of Minnesota late last night that Twins catcher Joe Mauer will be put on the disabled list with bilateral leg weakness, Ramos' value to the Nationals should elevate even more. "All offseason they were talking about how our pitching staff is the question, our offense is great," Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond said. "Now it's time for us to turn it on. The pitching staff is doing their job. We've got to go out and do the rest." Published April 14 2011

With the Nationals facing left-hander Cliff Lee and manager Jim Riggleman wanting to work Wilson Ramos in more -- especially against left-handed pitching -- the catcher gets the start in the five-hole this evening in the Nationals series finale with the Phillies. Published April 14 2011
Major League Baseball announced some details about the 2011 draft, which will officially begin on June 6, 2011 at 7 p.m., and the Nationals will be picking sixth overall, along with 23rd in the first round as compensation for the Chicago White Sox signing Adam Dunn this offseason. Normally, facing Cliff Lee after Roy Halladay would be an incredibly daunting task -- and quite honestly it still is. But the Nationals are stepping in against Lee at what may be a good time, after the left-hander went just 3 1/3 innings in his last start, allowing six earned runs in a 6-3 loss to the Braves. We'll see how he rebounds in a few hours but for now, here's a look at the Nationals' career numbers against him. Published April 14 2011
