Count Davey Johnson among those unconcerned by Stephen Strasburg’s struggles in his rehabilitation start Wednesday.

“Not at all,” the Nationals manager said. “(Opponents) are sky high and swinging from the get-go.”

Johnson is more concerned with Strasburg getting his work in, as he continues to rediscover his release point and rhythm.

Strasburg will throw on the side at Nationals Park on Friday, then start Aug. 22 in Hagerstown, Johnson said. Strasburg’s final rehabilitation start will likely be Aug. 27 with Triple-A Syracuse.

— Johnson said left-hander John Lannan (tight left knee) was fine after Wednesday’s bullpen session and will make his scheduled start on Saturday.

— Third-round draft pick Matt Purke was introduced to the media at Nationals Park this afternoon (Amanda Comak caught up with Purke on Wednesday). General manager Mike Rizzo said Purke will travel to Viera, Fla., this weekend so minor league pitching coordinator Spin Williams can assess the pitcher. That will help decide the pitcher’s next stop.

“He’s well on his way to getting in games,” Rizzo said.
