Werth sits out plus Nationals-D-backs lineups

Nationals Park remains standing after Tuesday’s earthquake, but there aren’t many fans around on a leasant night for baseball.

One adjustment to the Nationals’ lineup, as Jayson Werth sits out after straining his groin Tuesday. Instead, Laynce Nix starts in right field.

Manager Davey Johnson said Werth’s injury isn’t serious. While he’s listed as day-to-day, Werth is available to pinch hit. If he reaches base, Johnson will use a pinch runner.

“He’d be playing if we were in a pennant race,” Johnson said.

Also, rehabbing catcher Ivan Rodriguez will take batting practice on the field and in the cage on Thursday. But Johnson wasn’t optimistic about a quick return.

“If you ask him, he’s ready to play tomorrow,” Johnson said. “But the grabbing in his side has got to stop.”
