Pudge not catching Strasburg

← return to Nationals Watch

DENVER — Just a quick update before things really get going both in Denver and in Hagerstown where Stephen Strasburg, in case you hadn’t heard, will make his first rehab start this afternoon.

Nathan Fenno will be live on the scene there providing updates on Strasburg’s start but one person who won’t be is Nationals catcher Ivan Rodriguez. Rodriguez was cleared for activity by Dr. Bill Meyers in Philadelphia and went to Hagerstown Saturday to take batting practice. If that went well, Rodriguez could have possibly also begun his own rehab assignment Sunday and caught Strasburg.

That will not be the case. Rodriguez didn’t appear to be on the scene in Hagerstown Sunday and the Nationals are not having Rodriguez catch Strasburg. He will continue to rehab the oblique.
