In need of a series win, Nats open first of three with L.A.: today's lineups

LOS ANGELES — The Nationals open a the final three games of a 10-day, nine game road trip tonight in Los Angeles. At 2-4 on the trip, it’s safe to say the Nationals absolutely need to take at least two of three from the downtrodden Dodgers.

They’ll send John Lannan to the mound tonight in an attempt to do so against Dodgers’ righty Hiroki Kuroda.

Jesus Flores is here and taking batting practice so catcher Ivan Rodriguez will not be coming off the disabled list this afternoon. Rodriguez is eligible to come off today but a return was never imminent. While he continues to work his way back from a right oblique strain, Rodriguez is in good shape but there’s no reason to rush him, especially not with a tricky injury like that.

We’ll find out shortly whether or not Tom Gorzelanny will make his scheduled start tomorrow night. Gorzelanny said Wednesday he thought he’d be able to go but with the off day Thursday there’s no need for him to rush back either from a sprained right ankle as Jason Marquis can easily make that start on regular rest.

Here are the lineups behind Lannan and Kuroda:

Nationals:

Roger Bernadina CF
Danny Espinosa 2B
Ryan Zimmerman 3B
Michael Morse 1B
Jayson Werth RF
Laynce Nix LF
Wilson Ramos C
Ian Desmond SS
John Lannan P

Dodgers:
