Nix sits, no move for Pudge yet: today's lineups

← return to Nationals Watch

Laynce Nix is out of the Nationals lineup for the second straight day, presumably so that manager Davey Johnson can give him another whole day to rest the various aches and pains the left fielder’s been working through.

Roger Bernadina starts in left field in his place with Rick Ankiel in center.

The Nationals have not yet made a move to place catcher Ivan Rodriguez on the disabled list and call up a reinforcement from Triple-A Syracuse (which would presumably be Jesus Flores) but we’ll find out the status of Rodriguez’s strained right oblique when the clubhouse is open to reporters in a few minutes.

One thing is certain, he’s not playing today. Wilson Ramos makes his fourth straight start. He’s started four straight games only one other time this season, May 20-24, when he played in five straight. Nationals manager Davey Johnson had said when he took over that he wanted to play Rodriguez every third day both to keep him sharp and keep 23-year-old Ramos fresh. Rodriguez’s injury, obviously, has changed those plans at least temporarily.

Here are the lineups behind John Lannan and Jason Hammel:

Nationals:

Roger Bernadina CF
Danny Espinosa 2B
Ryan Zimmerman 3B
Michael Morse 1B
Jayson Werth RF
Rick Ankiel CF
Wilson Ramos C
Ian Desmond SS
John Lannan P

Rockies:

TBA
