  • Nationals open pivotal 11-game homestand

The Nationals are 40-41 as they open a 10-day, 11-game homestand. They finished the first 81 games of the 2011 season one game under .500 and that was with dropping the last three games of the mathematical first half of the season. Sure they just lost consecutive games for the first time since June 8 and 9. Sure they just got swept by the Angels in the first three games of Davey Johnson's managerial tenure, but the Nationals, as Jayson Werth said are "far ahead of where anybody thought we'd be at this time." The next 11 games, though, are pivotal for this Nationals team and this Nationals season. Published July 1 2011
