Werth leading off, Zimermann eighth: today's lineups

← return to Nationals Watch

SAN DIEGO — The Nationals will employ their unorthodox lineup for the second straight game with Jayson Werth leading off and the pitcher, this time Jordan Zimermmann, hitting eighth. Alex Cora will bat ninth and play shortstop as Ian Desmond gets a day off to rest some aches and pains.

Roger Bernadina was out of the lineup again after being scratched with a sore left hamstring before Saturday’s game. He was hopeful he could play today.

The general consensus last night was that most were in favor of the new-look lineup and the hope is that it will ignite a Nationals offense that has struggled to score runs and put together big innings.

Here are the full lineups:

Nationals:

Jayson Werth RF
Danny Espinosa 2B
Laynce Nix LF
Michael Morse 1B
Wilson Ramos C
Rick Ankiel CF
Jerry Hairston Jr. 3B
Jordan Zimmermann P
Alex Cora SS

Padres:

TBA
