Werth, Nix, Ramos, Desmond all sit: today's lineups

ANAHEIM, Calif. — When Davey Johnson was asked about his opinions on lineup construction Tuesday afternoon he mentioned that he has reasons for each lineup he puts out and said that while he had reasons for the first two, he may have different reasons for a new one Wednesday.

It’s definitely a different lineup than the Nationals have used both in Johnson’s abbreviated tenure or at all this season with starters Jayson Werth, Laynce Nix, Ian Desmond and Wilson Ramos all out of the starting lineup.

There’s a good chance for most of these guys it’s just a chance to get some extra rest as the team heads into an off day tomorrow. Nix, who is managing a sore right Achilles, came out of yesterday’s game early and Johnson said he most likely would not play him today and Desmond has been doing the same with a left quad issue.

Without further ado, here are the lineups behind Jordan Zimmermann and Dan Haren:

Nationals:

Roger Bernadina CF
Brian Bixler RF
Ryan Zimmerman 3B
Matt Stairs DH
Michael Morse 1B
Danny Espinosa 2B
Jerry Hairston Jr. LF
Ivan Rodriguez C
Alex Cora SS
— Jordan Zimmermann P

Angels:

Erick Aybar SS
Torii Hunter RF
Bobby Abreu DH
Vernon Wells LF
Howie Kendrick 2B
Alberto Callaspo 3B
Mike Trumbo 1B
Peter Bourjos CF
Jeff Mathis C
— Dan Haren P
