Jayson Werth scratched with sore right ankle

SAN FRANCISCO — Roughly 45 minutes before the first pitch in tonight’s Nationals - Giants game, right fielder Jayson Werth was scratched with a sore right ankle. He’s available tonight and is listed as day-to-day.

Werth, presumably, hurt the ankle Monday night when he tripped over the Nationals’ bullpen mound in foul territory attempting to make a play in the eighth inning. He took a tumble then but stayed in for the remainder of the 13 inning affair. This will be the second game in the last two series that Werth has missed after he sat out one game in Arizona after getting hit with a pitch in the elbow.

He was on the field all afternoon with the Nationals as they took batting practice and took BP himself.

Laynce Nix, who was getting the night off against a left-hander in Jonathan Sanchez, took his place in right field and hit eight.

Here is the revised Nationals lineup for tonight behind right-hander Jordan Zimmermann:

Nationals:

Roger Bernadina LF
Ian Desmond SS
Danny Espinosa 2B
Michael Morse 1B
Wilson Ramos C
Rick Ankiel CF
Jerry Hairston Jr. 3B
Laynce Nix RF
Jordan Zimmermann P

Giants:

Andres Torres CF
Conor Gillaspie 3B
Freddy Sanchez 2B
Aubrey Huff 1B
Nate Schierholtz RF
Aaron Rowand LF
Brandon Crawford SS
Chris Stewart C
Jonathan Sanchez P
