VIERA, Fla. — Danny Espinosa and Ivan Rodriguez were scratched from today’s Nationals lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Espinosa, who fouled a ball off the top of his right foot on Tuesday night, is still dealing with swelling in his arch. Hitting and fielding haven’t been a problem for the second baseman, but running is still causing some pain.

Rodriguez was a scratch Tuesday night with a sore left calf and hasn’t played since, though he did make the trip to Orlando on Thursday and was in the initial lineup this afternoon.

Both scratches are not considered setbacks but the Nationals have opted to give both an extra day of rest as they progress back to the starting lineup.

Brian Bixler and Jesus Flores have taken their places in the lineup.

Here’s the new one:

Nyjer Morgan CF
Ian Desmond SS
Jayson Werth RF
Adam LaRoche 1B
Michael Morse LF
Jesus Flores C
Brian Bixler 2B
Alberto Gonzalez 3B
Jordan Zimmermann P

And for the Cardinals:

Jon Jay CF
Ryan Theriot SS
Matt Carpenter 3B
Matt Holliday LF
Mark Hamilton 1B
Allen Craig RF
Skip Schumaker 2B
Yadier Molina C
Jaime Garcia P
