NEW YORK — As expected, given the way it looked last night as the Nationals slogged through a 3-0 loss, the grounds crew at Citi Field is doing major work on the infield right now in preparation for the Nationals and Mets series finale at 1:10 p.m. today.
Fittingly, it’s Weather Education Day here in New York and with the amount of rain the Nationals (and all of baseball) have seen this year, there are probably a few Nationals who could teach the course.
Instead, they’ll get the challenge of facing right-hander Dillon Gee for the first time since he beat the Nationals in his major league debut last September. Gee is 2-0 with a 4.44 ERA this season. He’s had some control issues — hitting a league-leading four batters — and while being used as both a starter and a reliever this season, has yet to go more than six innings.
Few Nationals have even faced Gee, but for those that have, they’re a combined 1-for-14 in 17 plate appearances against him.
Here are the Nationals’ full career numbers against Gee:
Roger Bernadina: 0-for-3
Ian Desmond: 0-for-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Jayson Werth: 1-for-3, 1 K
Wilson Ramos: 0-for-2, 1 BB, 1 K
Adam LaRoche: Never faced

Danny Espinosa: 0-for-2, 1 BB
