MILWAUKEE — If the Nationals and first baseman Adam LaRoche don’t get good news from the doctors who are reexamining the torn labrum in his left shoulder, the lineup the Nationals are using today could be one they implement for the foreseeable future.

With Jerry Hairston Jr. as the team’s primary third baseman until Ryan Zimmerman is healthy and with Michael Morse the likely candidate to take over at first base in LaRoche’s absence, the Nationals would officially be playing with half the infield they expected to have and the half they were planning on (Ian Desmond and Danny Espinosa) having a combined one-plus years of major league experience.
