Manager Jim Riggleman spoke to Jayson Werth Friday about the right fielder’s comments following the Nationals’ loss to the Brewers Wednesday.

Werth’s cryptic comments included “it’s pretty obvious what’s going on around here.” Riggleman didn’t believe they were directed at him.

“The short answer is no,” Riggleman said. “The change is we’ve got to start winning ballgames. … He used the word frustrated. He’s been around a lot of winning and we’re not winning.”

The Nationals finished the road trip 1-7 were shut out twice and are on a 3-10 slide. .

Riggleman wasn’t looking forward to the conversation and declined to detail what was discussed. But he felt it was a positive exchange of views.

“It was a real good conversation,” Riggleman said. “He has some ideas and I have some ideas.”

Also, Ryan Zimmerman started rehabilitation work at the Nationals’ spring training facility in Viera, Fla. That includes basic activities like batting practice, hitting off a tee and taking ground balls as he recovers from surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle.

Zimmerman is making progress and feeling better, Riggleman said, but the third basemen’s return isn’t near.

“He’s still got a long ways to go,” Riggleman said.
