The Nationals vs. today's starter: LHP Cliff Lee

← return to Nationals Watch

Monday afternoon, Roy Halladay told Philadelphia reporters that he had to change his entire uniform down to the socks in the fifth inning of his start, he was that soaked in sweat.

Well, I’m sure Cliff Lee and Jason Marquis weren’t the only ones who were glad that tonight’s game is being played at night. Temperatures were already hovering around 100 degrees by early afternoon and it should be an extremely hot batting practice. Gametime is at 7:10 and perhaps it will have cooled a few degrees by then.

All that said, it likely won’t make Lee any easier for the Nationals hitters.

Here’s how they’ve done in the past against him:

Roger Bernadina: Never faced

Ian Desmond: 0-for-4, 3 K

Jayson Werth: 1-for-7 (.143), 1 K

Michael Morse: 2-for-10 (.200), 4 K

Danny Espinosa: 1-for-3 (.333), 1 2B, 1 K

Ivan Rodriguez: 12-for-32 (.375), 7 2B, 5 RBI, 5 BB, 9 K

Jerry Hairston Jr.: 2-for-15 (.133), 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K

Brian Bixler: Never faced

Jason Marquis: 0-for-2, 1 K

Others:

Matt Stairs: 1-for-10 (.100), 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K

Wilson Ramos: 1-for-2 (.500), 1 BB, 1 K

Rick Ankiel: 0-for-8, 4 K

Laynce Nix: Never faced
