Ankiel sits again: today's lineups

← return to Nationals Watch

PHILADELPHIA — Rick Ankiel is not in the Nationals lineup for the second straight day as Jerry Hairston Jr. again fills in for him in center field and Ian Desmond returns to the second spot in the batting order.

Ankiel, who injured his right hand making two diving plays in the outfield on Monday night, did not play yesterday though Nationals manager Jim Riggleman said he was available to pinch hit. He also said there wasn’t much concern that Ankiel would be out for an extended period of time.

We’ll find out soon if the severity of his injury has increased or if Riggleman is just using the opportunity to get him one more day of rest.

Alex Cora gets the start at third base.

Here are the full lineups:

Nationals:

Danny Espinosa 2B
Ian Desmond SS
Jayson Werth RF
Adam LaRoche 1B
