PHILADELPHIA — On Wednesday, Nationals manager Davey Johnson said if he had his way, Stephen Strasburg would start Friday and then again on Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the season finale. Sounds like that’s become more of a sure thing as Johnson said he also ran the decision by general manager Mike Rizzo and he raised no protest.

“He said, ‘I wouldn’t mind seeing that also’” Johnson said. “And I said, ‘Well you’re gonna.’ I think barring rain and whatever that will be the plan.”

If Strasburg starts that game, Ivan Rodriguez — who caught Strasburg’s debut — will be his catcher for the final game in Sun Life Stadium before the Marlins move to their new stadium and change their name to the Miami Marlins next season.

The Nationals sent Strasburg and Chien-Ming Wang, their starters for Friday and Saturday against the Braves, back to Washington early Thursday afternoon in preparation for their weekend starts. Wang was also dealing with a bit of the flu but both played catch on Thursday and are expected to be good to go for the weekend.

– Jayson Werth and Wilson Ramos were both absent from the Nationals lineup on Thursday but Werth told Johnson he was able to play if necessary. Johnson didn’t want to rush him back from a right elbow contusion. Ramos felt a little soreness in his right thigh running out an infield single Wednesday night and Johnson had planned to rest him.

Danny Espinosa, who was hit with a pitch in his right foot Wednesday night was in the lineup.

– Here are the lineups for tonight’s game against the Phillies with Brad Peacock making what could be his final start of the 2011 season and second ever in the major leagues. He’ll be facing off with Roy Oswalt.
