Nationals-Giants Lineups: Werth returns in first-place matchup

SAN FRANCISCO — The Nationals and Giants meet for the second time this season as a battle of two first-place squads. The last time this happened, the Nationals swept three games from the Giants in convincing fashion.

This time, we’ll see, but one thing is certain: on paper this appears to be three great pitching matchups. Tonight will lead things off with Gio Gonzalez going against Ryan Vogelsong. Tomorrow it’ll be Jordan Zimmermann and Madison Bumgarner and Stephen Strasburg and Tim Lincecum will face off in the finale. 

Jayson Werth returns to the Nationals’ lineup after getting a day off on Sunday and the rest of the pieces fall into place in a usual fashion. It’s a brisk, beautiful day here in the Bay Area but it’s supposed to get fairly chilly by gametime.
