Nationals-Giants lineups: Morse returns

SAN FRANCISCO — The Nationals and Giants will play the rubber match of their three-game set here at AT&T Park this afternoon with the third straight quality pitching matchup. Stephen Strasburg will go for the Nationals against Tim Lincecum for the Giants.

Strange to think that Lincecum is having the worst year of any of the six starting pitchers to take the mound this series but that’s where he’s at right now and the Nationals, who’ve hit him well in the past, will hope to take advantage and finish the trip having won all three series.

Michael Morse is back in the Nationals’ lineup after missing Tuesday night and half of Monday night’s game with some inflammation in his right thumb. Morse insisted Tuesday night that he’d be fine to play on Wednesday and reiterated as much before the lineup was posted Wednesday morning so manager Davey Johnson put him in there.

“He miraculously is a lot better,” Johnson said. “The swelling went down. I think he has a little inflammation in his nerve but he’s fine.”
