Nationals-Braves lineups: Nats load up regulars for pivotal series

There’s been enough hype for this three-game series to last a lifetime. Biggest series in Washington since the 1930s, right?

Asking around in the Nationals’ clubhouse this afternoon, that wasn’t exactly the perception. These games, of course, are just as big as they were the last time the Braves were in town — when the Nationals dropped the first two of a four-game series and many thought their season was on the brink. Since then, the Nationals have gone 22-7 and the Braves are 18-10.

“It’s a big series,” acknowledged manager Davey Johnson. “I try to keep on a level key, not get too excited, not get too bored. All of them are important. But it’s the Atlanta Braves. They’re one of the best teams in the league. It would be the same feeling no matter how we were. So we know they’re pretty good. And they know now we’re pretty good. It’s going to be fun.”

Here are the full lineups for the opener, which will be delayed due to some bad weather that’s expected to hit Nationals Park.
