The Nationals’ newest member, Kurt Suzuki, spent the afternoon meeting his new teammates and getting himself acclimated inside his new home clubhouse. Then he got to work. Suzuki will have plenty of homework the next few days and weeks as he learns a new pitching staff and a new league full of opposing hitters and pitchers.

The Nationals wasted no time, then, in getting him right into the thick of things. Suzuki will catch right-hander Jordan Zimmermann tonight and hit seventh in the Nationals’ order.

Zimmermann and Suzuki met briefly when the clubhouse was open to reporters and shook hands. Suzuki said one of his first orders of business was to get together with Zimmermann and discuss the game plan agains the Marlins.

Zimmermann, who had his start pushed back a day due to some minor shoulder inflammation that had been hampering when he first began to get loose for his starts, will not be restricted in any particular way tonight as he takes on the Miami Marlins.

“I’m not really worried about it,” said Nationals manager Davey Johnson. “Even at the height of his problem, he’s still been throwing good. Extra couple days’ rest, feeling a little better, I might be worried he’s too strong, starts rushing or something. Hopefully not. (But there are) no medical restrictions.”
