    Ian Desmond will go through another full workout before Wednesday's afternoon game in San Francisco and then he will play in a simulated game at Nationals Park on Thursday. If all goes well and the Nationals decide against a rehab assignment, Desmond could be back in the lineup on Friday when the team opens a three-game series with the New York Mets.   • Nationals-Giants lineups: Werth returns after clean MRI, Morse out

    Jayson Werth walked into AT&T Park Tuesday afternoon carrying the protective boot the Nationals trainers made him wear home Monday night and told manager Davey Johnson he was feeling well enough to play. An MRI done on his right ankle Tuesday morning showed nothing serious, as Werth expected, so Johnson slotted the right fielder into the lineup. He was going to see how he got through batting practice before making a final decision but it appears he's a go for the 7:15 p.m. (pacific) game. That was good news for the Nationals because Michael Morse was not in the lineup after coming out of Monday night's game in the fifth inning with inflammation in his right thumb.
