Ian Desmond out of the starting lineup for the fifth straight game

While the Nationals look for the sweep over the Mets this afternoon at Nationals Park, Ian Desmond is not in the starting lineup for the fifth straight game. The Nationals’ shortstop said Thursday he feels good and could play if necessary but the team is still trying to get the left oblique strain that is hampering him behind him a bit more.

Desmond did serve as a pinch runner in the Nationals’ victory over the Mets on Tuesday night but otherwise he’s been purely a spectator in the Nationals’ last five games.

The Nationals made a few roster moves this morning, designating Rick Ankiel for assignment and activating Drew Storen, and also placed Jhonatan Solano on the DL with an oblique strain and recalled catcher Sandy Leon. The info on those moves is here.
