The Washington Nationals are being plagued by unbearable heat lately. With temperatures on Saturday expected to soar well above 100 degrees, the 102 that is right now on Thursday afternoon will likely seem downright springlike. But for now, it’s pretty darn hot.

The good news is that when the Nationals played the first of three extremely hot games in Atlanta last weekend, Ross Detwiler started the first one and said he noticed the heat only minimally. Being a St. Louis kid, Detwiler said he’s used to playing in high heat and humidity. He’ll need to be tonight as he and the Nationals go for the sweep over the San Francsico Giants.


The Giants will counter with All-Star right-hander Matt Cain.

We’ll find out in about a half hour whether or not Bryce Harper will be going to the All-Star game but given MLB’s latest update, in which Harper had fallen to third behind David Freese and Michael Bourn, it doesn’t appear he will be. We’ll see.
