DENVER — In the back of the pressbox here in Denver there’s a whiteboard that, eventually, contains all the information about the start of the game. It holds the lineups for both teams, the time the game starts, temperature, all that good stuff.

Today, atop the board was an apt quote for the Washington Nationals, who face the second of three straight left-handers with lackluster numbers as they try to emerge from a seemingly lineup-wide offensive funk.

“A slump is like a soft bed, easy to get into but hard to get out of. Persevere.” - Johnny Bench.

The Nationals’ offense is in an approach slump. Facing Jeff Francis last night, the Nationals hardly made the left-hander work for what he got. Only four of 21 batters were even in hitters counts and none walked.

If they’re going to break out against left-hander Christian Friedrich, who is 4-4 with a 5.65 ERA, they’re going to do it with an identical lineup (except this one won’t have slugging Stephen Strasburg in it).

The Rockies are without Marco Scutaro, who was hit in the head with a 95-mph fastball from Strasburg in the sixth inning.

Here are the full lineups:

Danny Espinosa 2B
