INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — The Washington Nationals could have someone taking home some of baseball’s most coveted hardware on three different days next week. Bryce Harper (Rookie of the Year), Gio Gonzalez (Cy Young) and Davey Johnson (Manager of the Year) are all finalists for BBWAA awards, it was announced on Wednesday.
Rookie of the Year will be given out on Monday, Nov. 12. Harper joins Arizona’s Wade Miley and Cincinnati’s Todd Frazier as finalists for the award.
Manager of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 13 with Johnson up against Cincinnati’s Dusty Baker and San Francisco’s Bruce Bochy. Johnson appears to be the favorite in this category and perhaps the Nationals’ best odds to take home the award.
The Cy Young will be awarded on Wednesday, Nov. 14 with Gonzalez joining R.A. Dickey from the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw as finalists.
There were no Nationals in the five finalists for the National League Most Valuable Player, though Adam LaRoche and Ian Desmond figure to appear on some ballots. The five finalists for the MVP were Ryan Braun (Brewers), Chase Headley (Padres), Andrew McCutchen (Pirates), Yadier Molina (Cardinals) and Buster Posey (Giants). The MVP award will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 15.
All of the awards will be presented on MLBNetwork in hour-long shows beginning at 6 p.m. on the days their specific days.
