If there was any concern about Bryce Harper hitting a lull in September as part of the long major league season, he did plenty to snuff it out.

The Washington Nationals center fielder hit .330 with 14 RBI and 26 runs scored on his way to being named Tuesday as National League rookie of the month.

Older teammates noted that the extra month compared to life in the minors can be very taxing. But instead, he led rookies with the 26 runs, put up a .651 slugging percentage and finished September with seven homers, three triples and seven doubles. The 19-year-old Harper stole four bases, too.

Harper’s reward for being rookie of the month? He’s one of two regulars in the Nationals’ lineup for Game 161 vs. the Philadelphia Phillies.
