Nationals-Dodgers lineups: John Lannan on the mound as Nationals look to clinch playoff spot

John Lannan is warming up in the bullpen with the second game of today’s doubleheader against the Los Angeles Dodgers is set to begin in five minutes.

The good news for the Washington Nationals is that second baseman Danny Espinosa got through his first game since getting a cortisone shot in his left shoulder extremely well. Espinosa attempted to talk his way into the lineup for the second game but manager Davey Johnson told him “I want him the rest of the year so he can come sit by me.

“We’ve got a good replacement in (Steve Lombardozzi) so, I’m glad he came through that game all right and that’s good. Big.”

The Nationals’ magic number to clinch, at the very least, a wild card berth, is down to one. One win tonight and they’ll be assured of a playoff spot of some sort.

Their magic number to clinch the division is down to nine with the Braves playing in Miami tonight. If the Braves lose and the Nationals win, that number could be down to seven by nights’ end.

Here are the full lineups for Game 2:
