PHILADELPHIA — Nationals outfielder Michael Morse was back in the lineup on Tuesday, one day after he was surprised to be sitting out of the team’s finale against the Milwaukee Brewers. Morse, who has had trouble recently with both of his hands and wrists, got a shot on Monday to combat some of the inflammation that has been causing him discomfort.

The Nationals have been assured that Morse, who does have a bone bruise and a torn sheath in his left wrist, cannot injure himself any worse by playing through it and he told manager Davey Johnson that he wants to play.

Morse joined the rest of the Nationals’ regulars in the lineup on Tuesday as they opened a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies. All of the Nationals’ pitchers and position players will be deemed “available” Johnson said, from now until the team clinches the National League East crown, which could happen as early as Thursday.
