Nationals-Phillies lineups: Danny Espinosa out as Nationals face Kyle Kendrick

PHILADELPHIA — Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa was missing from the team’s lineup on Wednesday for the middle game of their three-game series with the Phillies.

It’s unclear if Espinosa, who has played more games than any regular in the Nationals’ lineup, is just getting a routine day off or if there is something ailing him. He received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder last Monday to alleviate the pain and inflammation caused by a bone bruise in his shoulder socket.

Espinosa has played in every game since the shot, though, including the second game of last Tuesday’s doubleheader, despite not starting in the nightcap.

We’ll know more about what’s ailing Espinosa, if anything, when the clubhouse opens. For now, Steve Lombardozzi got the start in his place at second and in the No. 7 spot in the lineup.
