With Chris Rusin on the mound for the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night, the Washington Nationals’ lineup didn’t feature the usual 1-2 punch of Jayson Werth and Bryce Harper. Harper won’t start against the left, as Ian Desmond is penciled in to hit second.

Harper is hitting .226 against left-handed pitchers this season as opposed to .270 against righties.

“I’m going to try to find ways to get some of our guys that their playing time’s been cut a little short,” manager Davey Johnson said. “Tyler Moore, I wanted to get him in. Harp, I’ve kind of run him in the ground. Although I’m sure he’s not tired. I think he was a little tired on Sunday for some reason, but he felt great [Monday].”

Moore gets his first start since Aug. 26 in Harper’s place, and he’ll be in left field with Michael Morse in right.

Johnson said he plans on giving Jayson Werth off Wednesday.

“I’m just going to kind of pick some spots,” Johnson said. “We’ve had a real tough schedule here lately, the weather’s been hot and some tough games.”
