Greetings from relatively balmy Nationals Park, where I’m making another spot start for Amanda Comak.  The Nationals and Cardinals play the middle game of a three-game series Wednesday night, with left-hander Ross Detwiler of the Nats facing off against right-hander Adam Wainwright.

One of the televisions in the Nationals’ clubhouse was tuned into the Braves-Rockies game in Denver, the first of two those teams were scheduled to play Tuesday.  Temperature at the start?  Twenty-two degrees.  The upper 50-degree temperatures and the Nats and Cards were expecting didn’t seem so bad.

Nats catcher Kurt Suzuki said he has played when it has been as cold as it is in Denver and it isn’t much fun.

“It is miserable,” he said.

Said 70-year-old Nats manager Davey Johnson, “I’ve played in Boston when it is snowing. Played the whole ballgame. We didn’t have those real good warmers.  When you’re young, you’re OK. It’s when you get to my age that it starts bothering you. Everything hurts.”

The lineups, as the Nats try to snap a four-game home losing streak:

CARDINALS

Shane Robinson, 8

Allen Craig, 3

Matt Holliday, 7

Carlos Beltran, 9

Yadier Molina, 2

David Freese, 5

Matt Carpenter, 4

Pete Kozma, 6

Adam Wainwright, 1

NATIONALS

Denard Span, 8

Jayson Werth, 9

Bryce Harper, 7

Adam LaRoche, 3

Ian Desmond, 6

Anthony Rendon, 5

Wainwright is 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA this season.  He’s 4-3 in his career against Washington with a 3.60 ERA.

Detwiler is 1-0 with an 0.90 ERA.  Detwiler is from St. Louis.  He’s faced the Cardinals twice, earning a no decision with six strong innings in Game 4 of the 2012 NLDS and taking the loss in a 10-4 game on Sept. 20, 2012.
