It’s been over two seasons since Adam Dunn was a regular presence at Nationals Park, hitting breathtaking home runs and generally endearing himself to the Nationals’ fanbase.

Maybe that length of time away is why his return to D.C. Tuesday evening seems like more of a footnote than a headline.

A lot has happened for the Nationals since Dunn was a part of their team. It was before Jayson Werth or Adam LaRoche, before Harper had ever even been in major league camp. Maybe that’s another reason why it seems a little deemphasized.

At any rate, Dunn is back — although not in the lineup. Dunn has started just one game this season at first base, serving primarily as the White Sox designated hitter. Paul Konerko is there Tuesday night in the Nationals’ first inerleague series of the season.

LaRoche, who missed the last two games with a stiff back, is also back in the Nationals’ lineup, as expected.

Gio Gonzalez will pitch for the Nationals against Jake Peavy.
