    Mostly alone inside a silent visitors' clubhouse at Marlins Park Tuesday night, Dan Haren sat facing his locker and stared into the abyss. In the Washington Nationals' 8-2 loss to the Miami Marlins, Haren was chased before the end of the fifth inning with the Nationals in a seven-run hole. He searched for answers as his team digested Ryan Zimmerman's fourth throwing error and it's sixth loss of the young season. Published April 16 2013

  • Bryce Harper, Denard Span hit with stomach flu

    Bryce Harper and Denard Span were both absent from the Washington Nationals' lineup on Tuesday after spending most of the night dealing with the stomach flu. Published April 16 2013

    One day after manager Davey Johnson sat Adam LaRoche in order to get Tyler Moore some playing time, the manager appears to be doing the same on Tuesday to Bryce Harper and Denard Span.     The way the Nationals opened the game offensively in a 10-3 blowout, the Marlins hardly stood a chance. But once Jordan Zimmermann took the mound, once he set to work on pitching the first nine-inning complete game of his career, the end to the Nationals' first three-game losing streak of the season became mere formality.   • Adam LaRoche sits so Tyler Moore can get some playing time

    Early Monday afternoon, Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson sent a text message to first baseman Adam LaRoche. He wanted to chat. Johnson was planning to sit LaRoche, his Gold Glove first baseman, for a night in order to get Tyler Moore into the lineup. Moore, one of the Nationals' bright young talents on the bench, had not started a single game this season and Johnson felt it was important to get him a game here or there to keep him sharp coming off the bench.     Danny Espinosa held out his right wrist to display the bruising that had developed overnight from the fastball he took off it on Sunday. His wrist and his forearm displayed the dark, painful spots. Published April 15 2013

    One day after taking a pitch from Paul Maholm off his right wrist, Washington Nationals second baseman Danny Espinosa is not in the lineup against the Miami Marlins. Steve Lombardozzi got his first start of the season in Espinosa's place. Published April 15 2013

    The Washington Nationals didn't have all that much to smile about late Sunday afternoon as they packed up and prepared for a week on the road in Miami and New York. But Denard Span couldn't help but laugh at himself.     The Washington Nationals had a second straight game with an injury scare when second baseman Danny Espinosa was hit with a pitch on the right wrist in the second inning on Sunday. X-rays were negative, though, and while manager Davey Johnson said he expects Espinosa to miss a game or two, the second baseman said he'd see how he felt in the morning. Published April 14 2013

    The Nationals placed Wilson Ramos on the 15-day disabled list Sunday morning, recalling Jhonatan Solano from Triple-A Syracuse, though they were encouraged that an MRI done Saturday afternoon revealed Ramos' left hamstring strain was fairly mild and may only cost him the minimum 15 days.     The Washington Nationals dropped a second consecutive game to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday afternoon, but the most costly loss of the day may have come in the bottom of the eighth inning when Wilson Ramos pulled his left hamstring trying to beat out an infield grounder. Not within his own clubhouse, and certainly not amongst the opposition. Harper was intentionally walked Thursday night, bringing up Ryan Zimmerman and changing the course of the game.
